A distinctive piece of maritime history — this Viking chrome ship’s radio sector clock is a genuine salvaged vessel timepiece, available in two dial variants: a clean white face, or the striking red and blue sector version used in ship radio rooms.

The story behind the sector markings

Every radio room and bridge on a ship was equipped with a sector clock like this, its coloured markings acting as a critical visual reminder of mandatory radio silence periods — a system dating back to the earliest days of maritime Morse code communication.

On the red and blue sector variant, the coloured segments mark the internationally observed silence periods during which all radio stations were required to stop transmitting and listen for distress calls on the maritime emergency frequencies. These windows — observed simultaneously by radio operators worldwide — were a vital part of the global safety net at sea.

This clock didn’t just tell the time — it helped save lives.

About this clock

The chrome case gives this clock a sharper, more industrial character compared to the painted or brass variants in our range. Originally a slave clock wired to a master timepiece aboard ship, it has been converted to battery-powered quartz operation and is ready to hang straight on your wall.

Available in White (plain dial) or Red and Blue (sector dial).
