Premium Sulawesian Teak Serving & Chopping Board – Rare Figured Grain, Hand-Finished
A genuine one-off board cut from Sulawesian teak, sourced away from the more commonly seen plantation teak of Java. Like the rest of this range, it's dead-fall and salvaged timber rather than live-felled or plantation-cut stock — recovered as naturally fallen logs rather than grown-and-cut, in keeping with the salvage-only sourcing used across the wider Wild Roots range.
Teak has been prized for centuries for its natural oils, which make it unusually resistant to moisture and wear — historically the wood of choice for boatbuilding across the islands. This board was hand-selected for its unusual figure: pale golden-tan timber marked with smoky, swirling mineral streaking that gives each face an almost camouflage-like pattern, quite different from the even, straight grain of standard teak.
Finished by hand with a food-grade blend of tung nut oil and di-limonene (a citrus-derived terpene), which enhances absorption into the grain and brings out the natural figure. Supplied in a cotton drawstring gift bag.
