Saddles for Every Body: A Saturday Night Guide to Your Bum

It's Saturday night. You could go out. Or you could finally sort out the saddle that's been quietly ruining your rides. We know which one's more fun. (It's the saddle.)

First things first: there's no such thing as a men's or women's saddle

There's just your body and how you ride. Whatever your undercarriage, three things matter:

  • Sit-bone width. That's your skeleton, and it decides how wide your saddle should be. Sit on a bit of corrugated cardboard, measure the two dents centre to centre, then add about 20–30mm. Upright riders want the wider end, racier riders the narrower.
  • Pressure relief. A cutout or channel down the middle (Selle Italia call it Superflow or Flow) takes weight off the soft bits. If you go numb, get tingly, or are riding after surgery, start here.
  • How low you ride. Down on the drops, you roll forward onto the nose. A shorter nose means less going on up front.

That's it. No gendered pink, no marketing waffle. Just fit.
