Premium Rengas Salvaged Riverwood Serving & Chopping Board – Deep Red Burl, Hand-Finished in Java
A genuine one-off, hand-selected for its dramatic figure: this board is cut from Rengas riverwood, salvaged from logs that lay submerged in Javanese rivers for decades before being recovered by local forest communities, including the Badui and Dayak, who specialise in tracing naturally fallen and river-salvaged timber rather than felling live trees.
This is genuine dead-fall timber. No live tree is cut for this range — only logs that fell naturally through storm damage, landslide, lightning strike or old age, then lay in rivers or forest floor until recovered. Years underwater slow-cures the wood, leaving it exceptionally dense, stable and resistant to warping — a natural process no kiln can replicate. The result is a heartwood with deep red and burnt-orange tones, dark streaking and swirling burl figure around old knot clusters, occasionally striped in what's known locally as "Tiger Rengas".
Finished by hand with a food-grade blend of tung nut oil and di-limonene (a citrus-derived terpene), which enhances absorption into the grain and brings out the colour and figure. Supplied in a cotton drawstring gift bag.
