Original Kappa Radio Dial Salvaged Ships Clock Original green
Original Kappa radio dial ships clock, salvaged from a vessel and a great looking piece for any interior.
Kappa clocks are authentic vintage maritime slave clocks, originally manufactured in Korea through a technical collaboration with Seiko of Japan. They were wired to the master clock in the captain’s cabin, so every clock on board could be set together as the ship crossed a time zone. We have converted each one to run on a reliable AA battery-powered silent quartz movement. A small knob unscrews to open the clock face and reveal the mechanism.
About the radio dial: Radio rooms and bridges used clocks like this to show the mandatory radio silence periods. Operators on 2182 kHz kept a three-minute silence and listening watch twice an hour, at h+00 and h+30, shaded green on the dial. The old 500 kHz Morse frequency had its own silent periods at 15 and 45 minutes past, marked in red.
