Wild Roots Exotic Hardwood Machined Plank
A solid, heavy hardwood plank, machined and squared, measuring 20cm x 7cm x 130cm.
Alternative uses
Suitable as a shelf, mantel, bench top, or as a substantial blank for a woodworking or furniture project. Also works as a garden edging or plinth piece if given a suitable outdoor finish.
Where much of the wood comes from
A significant proportion of the timber is recovered from areas of Indonesia that have been cleared for mining. The forest has already been felled to make way for mining activity; Wira and his team recover usable trees and timber that would otherwise be abandoned, burned, buried or washed away.
This is not timber felled by us to manufacture products. The team's work begins after the land has been cleared, rescuing usable material from the destruction and finding a productive use for it.
Abandoned trunks can also become dangerous during heavy rain and flooding. Large pieces of timber may be carried downstream, contributing to blockages and potentially damaging bridges, roads, homes and other infrastructure. Recovering the wood can therefore prevent useful material from going to waste while reducing the amount of heavy debris left in vulnerable areas.
The timber is then transported, assessed and either stored as boards, slabs and turning blanks or made into furniture and other objects by Wira's network of local workshops in Java.
