Vintage Texas Rig-a-lite 4ft Explosion Proof Strip Light
A vintage Texas Rig-a-lite 4ft explosion proof strip light in ribbed cast aluminium, salvaged from marine and offshore use. Built in the 1960s, these fittings were made for ships' engine rooms, cargo decks and other hazardous locations, including LNG and LPG carriers, chemical tankers and drilling rigs, where sealed, explosion proof lighting is essential.
The heavy ribbed body, flat glass cover and cast hinged clasps give it a serious industrial look. It is far tougher than any modern domestic light needs to be, which makes it a strong statement piece for industrial-style cafes, bars, restaurants, workshops, garages and loft interiors. The sealed construction suits damp areas and outdoor covered spaces, and the flat glass cover is a good fit over food preparation areas.

Condition
Genuine used salvage, sold as an unwired light body. It has not been rewired or PAT tested, so it should be wired and tested by a qualified electrician before use. Expect the marks, patina and wear that come with decades of marine service. Chain shown in the photos is for display only.
