A brief introduction to the producers, the Vardas family: 'For the love of nature and people'

Our story began in 2000 when two young individuals, Anargyros and Maria, motivated by fond childhood memories, chose to revive the family olive groves. Under the guidance of Grandfather Michalis and our fathers, Manolis and Giorgos, we embarked on a new journey with the support of our entire family. Over the years, we have consistently dedicated ourselves to research, striving to create an olive oil that stands out not only for its exceptional flavour but also for its numerous health benefits. What started as a passion for nature has evolved into an unwavering pursuit!

Our passion and commitment, fueled by hard work, has finally paid off. Through analysis conducted at The National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, we have confirmed that our olive oil is not only of exceptional quality but also offers pharmaceutical-grade benefits. Driven by our desire to share this remarkable olive oil, we proudly introduced Skoutari in 2020.

From Nature's Bounty to the Bottle...

Today, our olive groves span nearly 15 acres in the Prefecture of Lasithi, located on the island of Crete. They begin at the historic village of Kritsa, perched 350 meters above sea level, where the scents of pristine nature from the wild flora envelop our trees. The groves extend all the way to Kavousi, where our ancient olive trees patiently produce their pharmaceutical-grade fruit.

We carefully cultivate and maintain our trees using strict organic practices, honouring both nature and tradition to ensure the highest quality and purity in our olive oil. We are continually exploring innovative methods to further enhance the quality of our product. Each of these elements, working together, contributes to the rich flavor profile, resulting in a perfectly balanced olive oil of unparalleled quality.

A further word from producer Maria Sgourou...

Skoutari is crafted from the Koroneiki olive variety, sourced exclusively from our family’s olive groves on the fertile island of Crete. This exceptional, organic extra virgin olive oil is produced in small batches and is known for its beneficial nutritional properties (as outlined in Commission Regulation (EU) No 432/2012).

Our process begins with an early harvest of the olives, followed by meticulous care in their gathering and immediate cold pressing at temperatures below 27°C. This careful approach results in an olive oil with low acidity, distinctive aromas, and a high polyphenol content. The polyphenols in our olive oil play a key role in protecting blood lipids from oxidative stress.

This means that with a daily intake of Skoutari olive oil as part of a balanced diet, you protect yourself from cardiovascular disease, regulate your blood sugar and cholesterol, and strengthen your immune system. According to current studies, the consumption of olive oil that is rich in polyphenols has a positive effect on people suffering from Alzheimer’s, multiple sclerosis, and some forms of cancer.
